Healthcare is essential to anyone when they visit a country, but as we get older, it moves closer to the top of our list of priorities. Pattaya has five hospitals in the city, including Banglamung and Pattaya City Hospitals, which are government hospitals. The remaining three are private hospitals and cater to different budgets, but all have medical professionals who speak excellent English and many other languages.
Small clinics, which you will find all around the city, are ideal for minor ailments and some pharmacies can also offer competent advice. However, for more severe cases, we recommend the following hospitals.
Bangkok Hospital Pattaya
Bangkok Hospital Pattaya is the hospital that is best equipped in Pattaya and is located on the Sukhumvit Road in North Pattaya. The facilities at this hospital are on a par with many top hospitals around the world, and they frequently welcome patients from abroad as part of medical tourism programs. Indeed, patients with serious injuries or illnesses are often transferred to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya as they are the only hospital in the area to have the equipment and expertise to care for them.
Their cosmetic surgery and dental departments are highly regarded with private rooms of the highest standard. The highly-trained doctors and nurses all speak excellent English with many other languages spoken through interpreters. The hospital welcomes private medical insurance from around the world, although prices do tend to be on the high side.
Pattaya International Hospital
Pattaya International Hospital is another top hospital in Pattaya although they don’t have facilities that are quite on a par with Bangkok Hospital Pattaya. They are located on Soi 4, Pattaya Beach Road and have excellent rooms and highly trained medical professionals, all of whom speak English. Translators are again on hand for other languages.
International health insurance is accepted here, and the hospital is considerably cheaper than Bangkok Pattaya. Many locals and ex-pats who have inpatient-only medical insurance favour this hospital due to this reason.
Pattaya Memorial Hospital
Pattaya Memorial Hospital is the cheapest of the private hospitals in Pattaya and has good facilities, but not to the level of those available and the two previous hospitals. The hospital is located just off Pattaya Klang and Pattaya 2nd Road. The doctors all speak English, but the same cannot be said for the nursing staff. It is a popular hospital with Thai nationals and a good option if you have nothing too serious.
Global health insurance is accepted, although due to low levels of English spoken, you may need more consultations with your insurance provider.
Samitivej Hospital, Sriracha
Samitivej Hospital in Sriracha is part of the Bangkok Hospital chain. It means that they have access to the same equipment and often the same doctors. The downside with this hospital is that it is around 40-minutes drive from Pattaya so not an option for emergencies. However, if you are being admitted for a pre-planned operation, this is the hospital of choice for many locals and ex-pats. The facilities and levels of care are excellent, as is the standard of English spoken.
