Badminton is one of the most popular sports in Asia, so it is hardly surprising that it is relatively easy to play in Pattaya. Squash is growing popularity both with Thais and expats with an increasing number of places where you can play. Many of the more upmarket hotels and condominiums now offer either badminton, squash or both. Here are six places in Pattaya where you will be able to play one or the other.
North Pattaya
Fairtex
Fairtex is probably the leading sports complex in Pattaya, and they offer both badminton and squash facilities along with catering for a host of other sports. Located on North Pattaya Road, they have a “pay to play” option meaning that you don’t have to be a member to take part in these activities. The facilities are very good, and this is a popular venue with those living in the north of the city.
South Pattaya
Diamond Badminton
Located just off 3rd Road in South Pattaya, Diamond Badminton is one of the best badminton facilities in Pattaya with several courts available. They aim very much at the Thai market, although tourists and expats are always made to feel welcome. The downside is that it doesn’t open until 2 pm, but there are food and refreshments options available before or after you play.
Pratamnak
Fitz Club Pattaya
Fitz Club is located in the Royal Garden Cliff Hotel in Pratamnak and is an upmarket sports club that has two squash courts although, surprisingly, no badminton facilities. The courts are designed very much with high-level competition in mind and have viewing areas. The courts are kept in first-class condition and booking in advance is undoubtedly advisable.
Na Jomtien
Ambassador Hotel
Although it may not appear the obvious choice, the Ambassador Hotel in Na Jomtien is an excellent facility for anyone that enjoys racket sports. The courts are first-class, and the prices are considerably less than at Fairtex. It is perfect for those living to the south of the city but has ample parking making it suitable for anyone.
East Pattaya
Horseshoe Point
Horseshoe Point is ideal for anyone living in East Pattaya as it is located not far from Soi Siam Country Club. It is an idyllic setting and offers an extensive range of sports including badminton and squash. It should be stated that these sports clearly play a lesser role at the club than equestrian, and some of the courts are beginning to show their age. The prices are lower than the two previous options, and it is probably more suited to casual players rather than those that take the sport too seriously.
Khao Noi Badminton
More commonly known as Pattaya Sports Society, this venue is located on Soi Khao Noi in East Pattaya. They have seven courts available along with being an overall excellent sports facility as they have 3G football pitches and an excellent gym. It is ideal for people living in the area and is very reasonably priced.
