What you’ll need to buy and register a car in your name:

  1. Passport with valid visa
  2. Thai driver’s license or an international driving permit (IDP)
  3. Proof of residence in Thailand, such as:
  • A residence certificate from Immigration or your embassy
  • A rental contract or house registration (Tabien Baan) if available
Once you've purchased the car—either new or used—you'll register it at the Department of Land Transport (DLT), and they’ll issue your ownership documents and license plates.
